The legend of how the god Thoth came to humanity
When the waters of the Great Rift receded, and the former world became a memory,
People lived scattered and apart - they knew fire, but did not know measure,
They remembered the sky, but could not count the days
And then the Moon stopped over the Earth, and out of its light came Thoth
He was neither young nor old, and his voice was quiet,
But it carried numbers, names, and laws within it
Thoth brought no weapon, but he brought the word

Thoth said to the people: “As long as you do not name things, you do not own them. As long as you do not record time, it owns you”
And he carved the first signs into stone
People saw that a thought could outlive a person
Thus writing and the memory of the lineage were born - The gift of measure
Then Thoth took a rope and stakes and showed people how to measure the land
He said: “Where there is no measure, there is chaos. Where there is measure, there is a home, a temple, and a city.”
People learned to divide fields, build walls, and count harvests and years
Thus society was born - The gift of the sky
At night Thoth raised his hand to the stars
He showed the path of the Moon, the movement of the Sun, the rhythms of time
He said: “Look up, so that you may understand how to live below”
Thus the calendar came into being, and life fell into harmony with the sky - The gift of law
When disputes arose among the people, Thoth placed a feather before them and said: “A person’s heart must be lighter than the feather of truth, or civilization will fall.”
Thus the law of Maat was established - order, justice, and responsibility - The gift of form
Before leaving, Thoth drew a triangle rising toward the sky and said: “This is the shape of memory. When you forget the words, the stone will remind you.” - The departure of Thoth
When everything had been given, Thoth said: “I will not rule over you - I leave you knowledge. What you do with it will become your path.”
Thoth was directly connected to Atlantis, which is why he is often called Thoth the Atlantean
Legends say he was an initiate of Atlantis, one of those who reached the limits of knowledge, transcended the human condition, and grasped the secret of immortality.
When Atlantis perished, some of its knowledge was preserved. The Keepers of Atlantis survived and scattered to different regions of the world. Thoth chose the Nile Valley, where land, sky, and water formed a stable rhythm suited to rebuilding civilization
Thoth did not pass knowledge on directly, but embedded it into forms (architecture, geometry, symbols), into myths and legends, into writing, and into laws
In this tradition, the Great Pyramid was understood as a stabilizer of space and time, a storehouse of memory, and a tool for preserving consciousness
Thoth said: “I did not give you immortality, I gave you the path to it. When you are ready, you will remember.”
According to the teachings of Hermeticism, Thoth sealed his knowledge in the Emerald Tablets and bound them to the Great Pyramid
What was written on the Tablets, according to the Book of Thoth
– The Law of Correspondence, “As above, so below” (the connection between humanity, planet Earth, and the cosmos)
– The origin of humankind (knowledge of past civilizations, of the catastrophe, of the preservation of knowledge through forms)
– Cycles of time (a description of the great ages, the rise and fall of civilizations, periods of the return of knowledge)
– The path of consciousness (a guide to inner development, to human transformation)
Why are the Tablets hidden?
Thoth knew that knowledge without measure is destructive, and that this was precisely why the previous world perished
Thoth hid the knowledge and encoded it, leaving it only for those who could read its form

Thoth is an ancient Greek name
In the ancient Egyptian language, the god’s name was Djehuty
Almost no temples of Thoth have survived in Egypt, with the exception of a few sites
- The remains of the temple of Amenhotep III in Hermopolis (present-day Ashmunein), in the form of two baboon statues (the sacred animal of the god Thoth), one of which has survived magnificently
This was the cult center of the god Thoth; the ancient name of the city was Khmun
Thoth was represented by two animal forms - the ibis and the baboon, where the ibis is Thoth as scribe and keeper of the text, and the baboon is the lunar god, the embodiment of reason, greeting the Sun

This was a kind of intellectual hub attached to the vast temple of power
The sanctuary served to record temple rituals, align rituals with the lunar and astronomical cycle, and preserve specialized knowledge
Unfortunately, no other temple structures connected to the cult of Thoth remain in Egypt
