– the Dahshur necropolis and its two pyramids, the Red Pyramid and the Bent Pyramid, whose construction history is just as thought-provoking
– the Meidum Pyramid, quite unusual in structure
– the pyramids of Abusir - a site officially closed to the general public, accessible only with special permission. Also here is ancient Abu Ghurab, a massive megalithic alabaster platform, all that remains of an ancient sun temple
– the pyramid at Hawara and the site of the lost ancient labyrinth described by Herodotus in his writings
– the pyramid at Lahun, with a uniquely crafted granite sarcophagus, the most precisely made of any found in Egypt
– the Abu Rawash pyramid, which extends underground - an off-the-tourist-path site, but open to visit
