The “In the Footsteps of Alexander the Great” program takes you through the places where the great conqueror left his mark, and tells the legends of his travels.


Route and Landmarks

ALEXANDRIA

  • Qaitbay Citadel
    Built on the site of the legendary Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and a symbol of Alexandria’s maritime power.
  • Pompey’s Pillar
    A granite monument reflecting the grandeur of the Hellenistic era and recalling Alexander the Great’s influence on the founding of the city.
  • The Library of Alexandria
    A famous treasury of knowledge, inspired by the ancient library that became a center of cultural and scientific exchange, founded by Alexander himself.
  • The Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa
    A unique complex of underground catacombs, laid out in a spiral, blending Egyptian, Greek, and Roman traditions that reflect Alexandria’s multicultural heritage.
  • The statue of Alexander on his beloved horse Bucephalus
    A monument symbolizing the military valor of the great conqueror, who was accompanied by this horse on many of his campaigns.

MARSA MATROUH

The pearl of Egypt’s northern coast, a city steeped in legends from the age of Alexander the Great. According to tradition, the great conqueror found respite here during his campaigns, enjoying the azure waters of the Mediterranean and the snow-white beaches that still captivate with their natural beauty today. There is reason to believe the city was also founded by Alexander the Great.

SIWA OASIS

Linked to Alexander the Great through an ancient legend, according to which the great conqueror visited this sacred place to receive prophetic approval from the Oracle of Amun.


Additional Options

  • Program length:
    4-5 days depending on the city of departure.
  • In Siwa Oasis:
    A jeep safari into the Libyan Desert can be arranged, with an overnight stay at a desert camp or near the hot springs.
  • In Marsa Matrouh:
    You can optionally extend your stay for a beach getaway.

Travel Season

Any season works well for this trip; the Mediterranean Sea is swimmable from May to October.
